As I was singing to the children my husband John comes home. As I was very excited that he had finally made it home I questioned him why it was so late, him giving me the response saying that he was farming out on the forest edge. I brought to the table a rabbit for us to eat, as my husband John says that it is well seasoned and good. We had a nice conversation that night talking about farming and other things of that matter. Then we began talking about Mary Warren and how she said, “I must go to Salem, Goody Proctor; I am an official of the court!” John got mad and started raising his voice because he forbad her to go to Salem anymore. I urged him to go Salem to tell the people that Mary Warren was a fraud, that she had confessed to her uncle it had naught to do with witchcraft. I didn’t hesitate at all I told John to leave at once, the night we spoke I told him to leave. Then as we continued to talk about his leaving that night John revealed a secret to me that I questioned immediately.

John let out “she told me in a room alone…” I quickly said “You were alone with her?” feeling quite disturbed. John and I kept talking until he realized that is was still disturbed about what he had told me, I smiled with dignity and said “John, if it were Abigail(our now fired maid)that you must go to hurt, would you falter her now? I think not.” We continued talking and I told him I see what I see letting him know that no matter what I think, is what i think and that I knew his discretions. Finally, John tells me that he has good reason for the fraud he has committed with Abigail, and he blames me. Yes, I do admit that I wasn’t doing my full duty as his wife but I thought his love for me would’ve have stopped him. John just kept going on and on not letting me get more than two words or letting me finish a sentence so I told him finally “I do not judge you John. The magistrate that sits in your heart that judges you. I never thought you but a good man, John only somewhat bewildered.” Suddenly Mary Warren comes in telling us that she has been in those proceedings all day and that she is sick. She gives me a poppet that she had made, as she informs us that 39 women have been arrested. We were shocked to this news because my husband John thought it were only 14. She also informed us that the women who confessed to witchcraft their lives would be spared but the ones who did not would hang. Hang! Such a drastic measure to go to, but it was of the pride of these people(women)that they stood up for the cause, that they weren’t cowards, and would die for what they believed in.
Mary reveals that she has saved my life in court today. Startled, I questioned such things as I am accused, and who accused me? Mary Warren’s whole personality has changed since she has been an official of the court. Anyways, I began to worry myself saying things to John like she wants me dead, I know it she won’t stop until they take me. Of course I was speaking of no one but Abigail Williams, as if the this girl hasn’t already caused my family enough but now she’s trying to put me into jail and get me killed, this is where I draw the line. She wishes to take my place, so go to her and talk for a promise was made in that bed that you shared with her I told John she could’ve called many names so why mine?, it’s because she wishes to take my place. I explained to John that any action that he does toward Abigail she sees in a different meaning just like in church when you blush as she passes you, you say that it is a blush for your sin, but Abigail may see it as something totally different maybe as reassurance that you still feel for her or whatever it may be. I also told John whatever promise he has with Abigail break it, and call her a whore and with no hesitation John says “Good, then. I’ll go.”
When Hale entered our home he gave us the news that Rebecca Nurse somewhat mentioned as was I. When I found out this news I was pretty startled at the fact that these little girls are causing so many people to be killed, and not only that but INNOCENTLY KILLED. John and Mr. Hale continued to talk as I quietly listened in, and I jumped in the conversation a few times just letting Mr. Hale know that our house was full of good Christian people and that no evil was here. Then Mr. Hale asked John to recite all of the commandments and John said all of the commandments except Thou salt not commit adultery so I had to let him know. I wasn’t even surprised but I did come across my mind how could that one slip his mind after the conversation we had had earlier. As Mr. Hale begins to leave the house I tell John as I somewhat shrill to him that he should tell Mr. Hale that the children’s sickness has nothing to do with witchcraft. John went along explaining what was said, when it happened, etc. and then Ezekiel Cheever walks in. Worried because he has taken both Rebecca Nurse and Giles Corey’s wife I fear that he will take me away from my family also. He begins talking about poppets and if I have any but I let him know that I have not had any since I were just a little girl. Then I remember that Mary Warren had made me one in court and gave it to me when she returned home so that is what I told Cheever. Cheever took out a long needle from under the poppets skirt. Abigail Williams was having dinner at Reverend Parris’ house and she just fell to the floor, and when he put his fingers into her belly and grasped the needle and she said that I, Elizabeth Proctor pushed it into her. So I was hauled off to jail.
The Warrant for My Arrest

I got called out of the jail to be talked with in court. Danforth asks me about when I dismissed Abigail as our servant because of her discretions with my husband, although that’s not what I told Danforth. I told Danforth that my husband John Proctor was not a lecher not knowing that the truth had already been told and that John told the officials of the court that I was a truthful person. I screamed “Oh, god!” realizing what I had done and I began to feel like Abigail was getting exactly what she wanted and that was to ruin my family. I was pregnant with John's fourth child which put a dent on my execution date because they do not believe in killing the innocent baby. So I just sat in jail with all of the accused people that were getting killed day after day after day. The morning came for the day that my husband was scheduled to be put to death, and Mr. Hale continued to try to convince me to save my husband. I got to talk to John one last time before he was killed and I will never forget this conversation. He asked me about the baby that i was carrying and I told him it grows, and then about the boys and I told him that I had not seen them but they were ok, I asked if he had been tortured and he said yes, they come for my life now. I also tell him how Giles Corey has died, by being pressed “More, weight” being his last words. John tells me his thoughts of confessing, as I say that I cannot judge him. John continues to bash his-self saying that he isn’t a good man but then finally I say “John, it come to naught that I should forgive you, if you’ll forgive yourself. It is not my soul, John, it is yours. Only be sure of this, for I know it now: Whatever you will do, it is a good man does it. I have read my heart this three month, John. I have sins of my own to count. It needs a cold wife to prompt lechery.”
