John let out “she told me in a room alone…” I quickly said “You were alone with her?” feeling quite disturbed. John and I kept talking until he realized that is was still disturbed about what he had told me, I smiled with dignity and said “John, if it were Abigail(our now fired maid)that you must go to hurt, would you falter her now? I think not.” We continued talking and I told him I see what I see letting him know that no matter what I think, is what i think and that I knew his discretions. Finally, John tells me that he has good reason for the fraud he has committed with Abigail, and he blames me. Yes, I do admit that I wasn’t doing my full duty as his wife but I thought his love for me would’ve have stopped him. John just kept going on and on not letting me get more than two words or letting me finish a sentence so I told him finally “I do not judge you John. The magistrate that sits in your heart that judges you. I never thought you but a good man, John only somewhat bewildered.” Suddenly Mary Warren comes in telling us that she has been in those proceedings all day and that she is sick. She gives me a poppet that she had made, as she informs us that 39 women have been arrested. We were shocked to this news because my husband John thought it were only 14. She also informed us that the women who confessed to witchcraft their lives would be spared but the ones who did not would hang. Hang! Such a drastic measure to go to, but it was of the pride of these people(women)that they stood up for the cause, that they weren’t cowards, and would die for what they believed in.
